We left two days after our wedding, which was by far the
best idea! We were able to have brunch with our families and had time to
regroup, sleep and pack! The travel wasn’t bad at all, we were very excited so I’m
sure that helped! We stayed at the Sandals Grande Antigua in the Caribbean
Village, placing us right by the beach! Here was the view from our room!
Each morning we enjoyed breakfast by the ocean, I can’t
think of a better way to start each day! The resort was also home to some of
our feline friends which I was very happy about. We saw 5-6 different kittehs
that roamed the grounds and napped in lounge chairs. They were very friendly
and so well behaved!
On the second day of our honeymoon we took a catamaran boat
ride around the entire island, it was spectacular! It was definitely the best
way to see everything! They took us to a private island called Green Island where we were allowed to snorkel and play in the water. They provided us with a traditional Antiguan lunch as well that was so delicious! We then headed to Nelson's Dockyard in the English Harbor which was beautiful! It was a very long day indeed, we left the resort around
10am and returned around 5pm. Once we hit the south end of the island they
lifted the sails and we cruised on home!
We enjoyed both laying by the pool and hanging out on the
beach. Waiters and waitresses came around constantly asking you if you needed
any drinks or food, so you didn’t even have to get up! We were in heaven :)
We met some amazing friends on our trip as well. One couple
was from New Jersey and the other couple was from Boston. We had the best time
with them! We made up different pool games to play together, we ate dinner
together and even killed it on karaoke night! Here is a picture of the gang at
our hibachi dinner!
As for the cat ears…we were in Antigua on Halloween so I
wanted a subtle way to dress up :) they actually hosted a costume contest that
night too! It was so much fun, all of the staff was dressed up and in the
spirit! Here is a picture of one of the bartenders and then the group competing
in the costume contest!
On Sundays we had read that the place to be was Shirley
Heights. It’s the highest point on the island that provides the best views!
Shirley Heights also hosts a party on Sundays complete with a steel drum band
and traditional Antiguan barbecue! The day
was sadly overcast, but we were still blown away by the amazing views!
When the sun went down they even had live entertainment that
was filming for a local news channel! We had so much fun!
Besides our other two excursions we also rented jet skis and
used the free paddle boards! It was my first time doing both and I enjoyed them
so much! Jet skiing was a blast we went at it full speed and were flying over
the waves!! Paddle boarding was very relaxing and super easy, I highly recommend
both!
The Sandals experience was truly magnificent! The food was excellent
and the drinks were plentiful. One aspect we really enjoyed were the “playmakers.”
The playmakers were Sandals employees that handled all of the daily and nightly
entertainment. Each day we played a different game by the main pool, the games
ranged from Name That Tune to Bingo to a series of Water Sport Olympics! We
were so happy we participated and I even won a free necklace when I played
Bingo!
Each day had a different theme or main night time activity. I
didn’t take pictures every day, but our favorites were the beach party, karaoke
and white night. Here are pics from each of those!
Karaoke with the gang!
White night was where we played the Battle of the Sexes game on
stage! White Night was also accompanied by a decadent chocolate buffet that was amazing!
The beach party, complete with a barbecue dinner, fire show
and steel drum band!
It was the best vacation to date and we loved everything
about it! The people of Antigua are so kind and humble, it was truly life
changing. Antigua is absolutely beautiful, I cannot say that enough. The white sand and crystal clear water are breath taking. It is truly heaven on earth.
